Phoenix is a large, thriving city in the state of Arizona. In fact, it is both the capital and the largest city in the state. Over 1.4 million people call Phoenix their home and the metropolitan area holds over 4.1 million people. The city is the largest capital in the country and the only city that is both the capital and the home to over one million people. The area was incorporated as a city in 1881 and founded in 1861 near the Salt and Gila Rivers. It eventually became a major transportation network in the country and a main economic and cultural center in the southwestern portion of the U.S. Phoenix has been home to many politicians and other influential people and dignitaries. When you travel to Phoenix five star hotels offer the best, most comfortable accommodations.

Phoenix is in the northeastern section of the Sonoran Desert and, therefore, has a subtropical arid climate. It is very hot in the summer and also very dry. Winters are mild and the area rarely has snow. Many retired individuals enjoy traveling to the area in the winter to get away from the cold temperatures in other parts of the country. Those that visit in the summer feel the heat, but enjoy the fact that the humidity in this area of the country is very low. The city has a large variety of attractions and activities including many museums, performing arts venues, fine arts, recreational opportunities and much more.

Phoenix holds many unique and interesting attractions that should not be missed. The Heard Museum is one such attraction. This museum has exhibits like any other museum, but it displays them with such style and grace that visitors get to see history in a whole new light. The museum has 32,000 pieces of fine art and cultural history including permanent and rotating exhibits. It also holds many special events throughout the year like the Guild Indian Fair and Market in March.

The Desert Botanical Garden has one of the best collections of desert plants in the world. There are only 44 botanical gardens in the country that have been accredited by the American Association of Museums and this garden in Phoenix is one of them. The grounds hold over 50 acres of outdoor exhibits with rare, endangered plant species from all over the world. This is the best place in the city to take in the beauty of the desert.

Another beautiful area is located near Piestewa Peak. This peak is part of the Phoenix Mountains Preserve and has an elevation of nearly 3,000 feet. Hikers can take a trail with an elevation grade of over 1,000 feet in order to reach the top. The workout to get to the peak is wonderful and the city view is rewarding. This trail is one of the most heavily used paths in the nation with anywhere between 4,000 and 10,000 hikers climbing the peak each week. You will see why it is so popular when you experience the views and atmosphere for yourself.

If you have drive to the area or if you rent a car when you arrive, you will want to drive the Apache Trail. This drive will probably be one of the most memorable things you do while you are in Phoenix. You start on the trail just 25 miles east of the downtown part of the city and drive the 46 miles between Apache Junction and Roosevelt Lake. You will go through Lost Dutchman State Park, Saguaro Lake, Goldfield Ghost Town, the Theodore Roosevelt Dam, the Canyon Lake Recreation area, the Tonto National Monument and much more. All of these sites make great stopping points so tourists can spend an entire day taking in the beauty of the area or you can simply drive the road and watch the views as you pass through.

If you want to enjoy the elegance available in Phoenix five star hotels are the best options for your accommodations. These hotels have outdoor pools to help keep you cool, wonderful spa services to help you relax and all of the features you need in your room. You can ask the staff for help arranging transportation, tours and reservations, or ask for recommendations during your stay. If you are in the area on business, Phoenix five star hotels are conveniently located near the business center of the city and they all have free Internet access so you can easily work from your room. No matter what your reason for visiting the area, you will be well cared for in any of the Phoenix five star hotels.
